Learn about the Technique (explanations)

Introduction

"How to use my astonishing « inner » potential"

Transition! Change? All realities have different angles that we don’t always see during more intense periods of life such as: a career change, a layoff, reassignment, unemployment, grieving, divorce, shock of life, multiple disappointments. You have a question? The SUMAE Technique will help you stimulate a side of your reflection that you do not pay attention to at the moment, or that you have not yet processed mentally. This is a powerful tool of reflection which offers you a "mirror image" of your present life, by stimulating your capacity of projection towards the essential while analyzing precisely in a symbolic way, risks that might come with a possible decision.

"To sail" beyond difficulties resulting from a very problematic situation, to regain control of your every day life and to reach for a better quality of life, the SUMAE Technique invites you " to consult it " on demand and according to your schedule. You will then discover another side of your thinking process; a side that offers you a modified perception of your current situation, leading you towards various indications "of treatment ".

The SUMAE Technique and its symbols

Symbols are at the heart of the thinking process of an individual when the SUMAE Technique is used. Did you know that the brain works by generating different symbols, in reference to your previous memories (intimate KNOWLEDGE), before translating a thought into words?

Observation #1

When the brain receives a message, it has to" translate it intellectually ". This way, the brain will not modify the message with words but with images, symbols. For the brain, to communicate means putting together symbols which will then form different mental images translated in to a significant language for an individual. The SUMAÉ Technique stimulates, the user cognitive thinking process (taking in different information).

Observation #2

The SUMAÉ Technique refers to the development of a skill that the author (Suzane Proulx) calls "our capacity of projection" which is at the core of understanding the symbols used by this technique. Its main goal is to help the user focus on the basic points of his questioning while developing his "symbolic mode" of reflection.

What is a symbol?

An object use to represent something abstract (Webster’ New World dictionary) or an arbitrary sign (written or printed) that has acquired a conventional significance. It is the intellectual representation of an object created for the mind. For Carl G. Jung, a symbol is an expression of the imaginary that reconciles various sides of the reality of an individual, which goes through, by analogy, from one side of reality to another one by using symbolism as a tool of transfer of information.

What is a symbolic reflection?

Reflection that uses symbols to facilitate the association of ideas, can be significant of an intention (action of leading) preceding an action.

Structure of the SUMAE technique

SUMAE is composed of 79 symbolic designs. There are:

  • 23 major symbolisms (0-22), called the core topics that indicate the main point of view that the user of the SUMAE Technique as to consider (projective tool)
  • 28 positive symbolisms / indicators (+)? (23-50)
  • 28 negative symbolisms / indicators (-)? (51-78) - These symbolisms are clues that favor a reflection concerning various aspects of the user life and what he can make of it (reflection of his reality? "Mirror" effect).
  • 5 “floating” symbolisms / indicator (+/-) and (-/+) to which the user attributes the signification of his choice, including the indicator «0» (Everything can happen…)

How the SUMAE Technique works

To optimize your thinking process, there are 2 essential rules to follow:

  1. Have only one question at a time and formulate it clearly
  2. End your reflection on a positive thought!
And 5 steps to comply with: * shorten
  1. Formulate a question and write it down (very important!)
  2. Observation(s) which means…to write down what inspires me in the symbolism
  3. Reflection + end if last symbolism is positive (+)
  4. A summary of the reflection of the user
  5. Decision… or second option = maintain my reflection

The WEB system of the SUMAE Technique works in an unpredictable way. It is programmed to facilitate the thinking process of the user as he begins his reflection, following a QUESTION he asked. When an individual decides to learn about the SUMAE Technique, asking a simple question is at the core of a successful reflection. Afterward, when the thinking process "takes place" before the eyes of the user, he is asked to decode gradually symbolisms, so he can push his reflection "of the moment" further.

According to a standard method of reflection, the WEB system presents three symbolisms to the user and, afterward, if symbolism #3 is positive (+), it ends. However, if symbolism #3 is negative, the WEB system of the SUMAE Technique will continue to present symbolisms to the user until a positive symbolism (+) is selected. Why is it so important to conclude a reflection on a positive note? Because the user or the environment generates more negative energy (under any forms) in periods of important interrogation, transition, change or uncertainty. So, this type of projective tool which is the SUMAE Technique was created to maintain only positive thoughts at the user (to maintain the user’s positive state of mind) or, to say the least, to bring a clarification, a potential answer to an interrogation of the moment (here and now).

Description of the steps

  1. Formulate a question and write it down (very important!)

  2. Example : How to align my priorities... What should I do to resolve my transition?

Clue : Think of a situation in link with your preoccupations of the moment (uncertainty…) and for which you wish to obtain a different angle of perspective, in terms of your reflection.

  3. Observation(s) (to make one or more, it’s the user’s choice)

  4. A first symbolism appears … What does it mean for you, in link with the formulated question? ...
A second symbolism appears; note the themes and type of indicator associated with your question. Which thought appears following the analysis that you have made of the symbolism in front of you? ...

Clue : It is difficult? ... Be patient; let your brain do what it has to do, to understand what there is to understand. Nothing can be hastened in the world of perceptions. Persevere; Rome wasn’t built in one day!

  5. Reflection

  6. A third symbolism appears. If it is positive, your reflection is completed... Write a summary of your reflection in the box foreseen for that purpose (observations made, ideas, alignment selected, decision taken … or a new question) and print it so you can think about it later.

Clue : Do not force yourself to end the process if a supplementary (another) reflection is necessary. Give your brain and your creativity the time it need to "settle", integrate and mature this new way ( symbolic mode) to reflect, and the next time you will use the SUMAE Technique, it will take you towards other angles of reflection, deepening what worries you towards a positive acceptable solution for you.

  7. A summary of the reflection of the user

    • To write, in the box, the summary of my reflection
    • To keep it for a follow-up "reflection" connected to my question.

Clue : Why write? To this day, writing is the only method known to help you to communicate with your creativity. However, without writing, reflection is still possible, but making an action tangible following a well articulated decision-making (decision-taking) becomes very difficult, even impossible to do, because the brain forgets and … without writing, no programmed action towards a predefined target is possible. A reflection without writing is neither structured, nor disciplined. Just like a child who plays to scatter everywhere, it tends to turn towards something that is not essential to deal with, and has a tendency to lead towards what is easier such as: forgetfulness, stagnation, old habits that we carry, buried in the deepness of our unconscious. Furthermore, we sometimes lose the perspective of what has to be lived when we maintains the ignorance of an uncomfortable situation.

  8. 5. Decision… (or second option = maintain my reflection)

    • The user has the option to continue his reflection but this time in a way more aligned and deepened or ...
    • Print your completed reflection along with the different symbolisms generated by your question "of the moment" so you can easily access it and confirm your progress or stagnation, in link with your reflection.
    • * Note: At any time, a summary can be printed.

Clue : If you wish to obtain the peak efficiency (the best results) with this projective tool of reflection which is the SUMAE Technique, it is suggested to begin alone, in silence, to impregnate your reflection with "your" personal atmosphere. Write down your question … and begin … Different symbolisms appearing on the screen will then take you towards the more important angles of reflection in link with a specific question. Afterward, you will be able to use it with other people.

* Know how to find moments of solitude and silence to think privately about the solutions you are looking for.

You have just completed your first encounter with this "symbolic mode" of reflection so familiar to your brain. Now, you can either choose to push your reflection further or make a decision in link with a future action if you are ready (write it down in the box foreseen for that purpose). Otherwise, remain in reflection mode for another experience in link with your learning of the SUMAE Technique. You are the one in charge!

Lexicon to be consulted (SUMAE Technique)

If you wish to improve your understanding of the terminology connected with your practice of the SUMAE Technique; you are invited to consult the lexicon created by the author (Dr Suzane Proulx) it will help you clarify the terms that might sometimes seem more vague, unclear or simply unknown.

Conclusion – The SUMAE Technique

The SUMAE Technique accompanies you and "guides" you, on demand. It helps you move through your day more carefully analyzing the various potential risks associated with a future decision or when you are temporarily uncertain, tired or "too stressed out". Do not hesitate to consult this projective tool that is the SUMAE Technique and which has "already proven itself" many times over the years. Always ready, it is very generous of its time. However, take note that the technique "communicates" only with an intellectually receptive individual.
